Ashton Allen

Here's how it played out. About a month or so ago I was on a great site - pandora.com. It's quite an interesting site, and is now free if you sign up. You type in your favorite song or favorite artist. It looks through a database of songs that have been broken down my instruments, melody, etc., and plays songs that are similar to that style and you end up finding music you never heard of before. Well while on this site, I happened to put in Gary Jules' "Mad World". One of the songs played for that one was "Dewdrops" by Ashton Allen, pretty catchy song.

Moving along, last night I found out that he was going to be in Brentwood, so I figured why not go? After helping out with the newscast, I called up Laura and told her to meet me outside of her dorm so we could head towards Nashville. We left her dorm around 6:10, the concert was to start at 7 in the Cool Springs Barnes & Noble. We finally got to Barnes & Noble at around 7:30. I heard the piano playing, it was the song "If You Leave". We walked over to where he was playing, sat down, and 20 seconds later he said thanks and got up to start packing everything up. Laura and I felt kind of awkward so we just got up and started looking at CD's as if we hadn't gone there to watch him. The store manager came up to us and told us that we were late . . . ya think? But I let it slip that we came from Kentucky to see it so he let us meet ol' Ashton and he actually ended up setting back up and playing some more songs for us . . . very cool. I totally wasn't expecting it, and although it was awkward having them set up just for us, it was nice of them and it made the drive worth it.

So just to let everyone know, if you go to myspace.com/ashtonallen you can hear a few of his songs, the two I mentioned above are probably my favorites, but maybe you'll find ones more to your liking? Check it out, he's a nice guy and a good musician.
